I got kid-shamed at a restaurant - Am i not supposed to bring my 1yo to the restaurant?

I live in NYC and im helping my brother (single parent) raise his kid. I decided to take my 1yo nephew out to dinner at a restaurant. During dinner I was told by management that the table next to us complained that he was making "too much noise." After a few complaints, they asked us to leave. (I get it - its sat night and youre trying to have a girls out night with your gf. But I need to live a life too.) However, he was never crying nor screaming in rage (i wouldve taken him outside if that was the case). He's beginning to say his first words so he babbles a lot and laughs a lot (he was playing with one of his small toys). To me, thats just normal toddler behavior. I was then told by the adjacent table that I need to "learn to control my child." My brother and I are new to this and we have no idea wth we're doing. Am I not supposed to take him out to the restaurant? Am i supposed/expected to keep a 1yo quiet for an hour while we eat? How do you parents help "control" your kid while you are out in a restaurant? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2PCcKMn
