My husband and I are about to have our first baby at the end of June. Separately, we have been looking to get a small toy dog of a certain rare breed for years. We finally found a breeder near us (just moved to Europe) and the pups will be ready to take home during the same week that the baby is due. Maybe a week after. Who knows, depends on when the baby actually comes.I don’t think this is a good idea. I think we are both new to parenting and adding a puppy means a lot of additional work that we won’t need. I think we will be too exhausted physically and emotionally to be able to split our attentions between a baby and a dog. Outright, i think the idea is crazy and I’m a little concerned that my husband doesn’t understand the work that is required of a newborn. We found a second litter that will be ready in mid August. I think it would be better to wait to get a pup from that litter. And honestly even that might be too soon. The baby will be a month and a half old. Still pretty young to introduce a barking germ vector lol (I love dogs but they do track in the germs). We have been looking for this dog for years and they’re my faaaaaaaave so it’s hard to turn it down when he is so on board with it. But I just feel like it’s adding unnecessary stress and work on the household to consider it.Am I wrong? Everyone tells me a baby is more work that I can imagine. I don’t honk at wise to get one at the same time as the baby. If I’m wrong, please let me know how it can be managed. If not, what can I say to my husband to make him understand how much work a baby is?TL;DR: husband wants to get a puppy the same week as our baby is due. Is this a wise choice/doable? Or is this insane to even consider? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2JlZLxP
