Have any parents ever gone through this???

I desperately need help. I came here because my friend recommend this community. You see, I have a 14 yr old son named Michael. Michael has his first ever girlfriend, named Carlie. I've been hesitant about this relationship from the beginning due to her family's reputation which I will get into in a minute. However, I wanted Michael to begin learning to make his own decisions so I allowed this.Carlie comes from a severely neglectful, abusive home. The neighborhood calls her house the "second borough police station" because there's almost always cop cars parked out front. They are a family of much drama. Both parents beat up Carlie and her older brother who left home. Child Protective Services have gone out many times. These people always seem to get their kids back almost right away.Since it is summer, Carlie doesn't have school to go to which acts as a safety net for her. Michael brought her here today and says she wants to live here, she's tired of being "tossed like a rag doll" between one bad home and several others she claims are just as bad. Her mother apparently hit her for using the internet for too long. Michael says if Carlie won't live here that she plans to runaway.I've been sitting here since this morning, trying to contemplate what to do. I am at a loss. Keeping her here is out of the question. Not only do we have no legal claim on her, we could get arrested for kidnapping. I could call the police but they never seem to take the situations with their family seriously. Hell, I could take her home now ansd there's probably cops outside. If I take her home, her parents will probably get pissed and take it out on her. Her mother has called my cellphone five times today, so I assume she knows Carlie left. What are my options here? How can I help this poor child, both for my son and her own sake? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2akRI46
