How do kids get assigned to specific classes?

Not sure if any teachers or parents out there know this...Kiddo just moved from his pre-school classroom up to a kindergarten classroom at his daycare (so private kindergarten, effectively). There are 15 kids to a class. There is not a single kid in his class that he knows or has been with before in his 3 years at the school. His 2 best friends are together in a different class.I'm not going to go all gung-ho at the school and request that he be moved with his friends, I feel like there may have been some logic or planning involved in where he went that I may not know about, I'm just curious if this is a common thing. For what it's worth, my kid is super easy-going and calm, his best friends are girls and none of them are trouble-makers, so splitting them up for behavioural reasons isn't the case.TL;DR - do teachers have influence on where their kids go when they move up to the next grade/classroom, or is it just random/luck of the draw?EDIT: I see that this is likely school-specific and not something that can be generalized. I'll ask the school. Thanks! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2u2abJo
