Fireworks, heights, loud noises, the dark, swimming, being alone, going fast, riding a bike, insects, etc. He won't even ride carnival rides made for younger children- The only thing he will ride is the train that someone drives around in a circle. We've tried positive reinforcement- giving him high fives or treats and love and good things when he goes out of his comfort zone on a normal day, we've tried bribing him to get on a ride, we've pointed out how much fun other kids have when they get off rides, or how awesome and pretty the fireworks are, etc.How do we make him more confident and not scared of everything? This creates so much frustration with me, as his father and I love roller coasters and all things fast and fun (at least fun to us). What can we do? I am desperate to get him out of his shell and into the world. We are planning a trip to Disney in the spring, his older brother [8] is excited, and we wanted to fly instead of driving 14 hours. 6yo immediately started screaming that he didn't want to go fast so high in the air. We need to get him to not freak out boarding/riding the plane, and also we would love to ride on some smaller rides with him in the parks without tears.. His brother just recently started riding coasters and is actively trying to learn to swim etc. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/297ZHMS
