Even Mr. Rogers had a difficult time with parenting

I’ve just finished a biography on Mr. Rogers I don’t think this is very well known so I thought I would put it out there.Good grief the shit his kids put him through. He would come home from work and his kids would be fighting so much he thought they were going to kill each other. They did typical kid things like refusing to eat their dinner, and other not-so-typical things, like growing a marijuana farm in their basement. Part of Mr. Roger’s parenting journey involved discovering his basement full of grow lights and making his teenage sons destroy all the plants before they got caught by the police. They were also careless drivers as teens, included drinking and driving, and got into multiple bad car accidents. Mr. Rogers once yelled at his son for an hour trying to impress the importance of safe driving (and then thanked his son for the opportunity to express his feelings, because, you know, Mr. Rogers). There were broken bones, hospital visits and near drowning experiences that Mr. Rogers was said to be almost traumatized by.So if you are having a difficult time parenting and blaming it on your own shortcomings, take heart because even one of the greatest, most patient, kindest humans to ever exist found it challenging. If even Mr. Rogers had trouble with parenting, maybe the rest of us can shrug off some of the self-blame we feel when it seems like we aren’t good enough people and we aren’t doing enough for our kids. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2OMeRgJ
