Toddler oversensitive to everyday noise

Hi everyone! I am the mom of a 2.5 year old boy. I've done ASQ's with his pediatrician, and nothing seems to be developmentally missing except for his weird reaction to noise. At first, we thought it was normal because it was just super loud things like the vacuum, trucks, ect that other kids often were scared of too. Except, our toddler tends to react a little more severely to those noises. This now happens way more often than we had anticipated. I know the terrible twos/threes are terrible, and we knew that was coming, but his pre-school has started to comment on his behavior and i'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this.So a few months ago, we started noticing that he is TERRIFIED of loud noises. He does not like the vacuum, hair dryer, hand dryer in public restrooms, toilets flushing, noisy restaurants where they sing "happy birthday" and clap (honestly, I hate that crap too), kids screaming, cars driving by, people yelling, loud music, i mean, literally anything to do with noises. When one of these noises happen, he covers his ears and starts screaming/crying that he is scared and he doesn't like it. We immediately try to stop the noise or try to distract him, but these meltdowns last at least 15 minutes every-time. We had to bring one of those little non-flush-able toilets to his pre-school to get him to use the restroom because it was causing too many meltdowns a day.I brought all this up to my pediatrician, and she told me that it's not normal for him to freak out about EVERY loud noise, so they referred me to an audiologist that tests for over-sensitivity with hearing. Anyway, I do think i'm already on the right path to deal with this, but i'm just posting here to see if any other parent's have had similar struggles and how to best deal with the meltdowns. Any help would be greatly appreciated! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2xE5t5K
