Child Getting AFTER Making a Team

My son is a travel hockey player and is 11 years old. He just moved up to a new age bracket. In April, tryouts were held and despite being sick, he played great and made the A team (there is a B team as well). During the summer, a coaching change was made and the coach claimed he may move players based on his opinion of their skill level. No new tryouts were held, only "voluntary summer workouts". Many of these workouts conflicted with other camps and clinics my son had signed up for in preparation for the season, so we made 4 of the 7 that were held.Tonight, the coach calls me to let me know they will be demoting him to the B team. This is after making us pick a new number and buy new jerseys and a new "team colored helmet".I'm looking for advice on how to handle this. My wife and I are so upset. I am forcing the coach to tell my son, I don't want to be the one. But I don't know how he will take it. This is happening so late in the year that we don't even have an opportunity to try another team. We would not be upset if he was told after tryouts he didn't make it but the way this is being handled is ridiculous and I want to make sure I do everything I can to defend my son but also help him through this. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2wzq38D
