Question about CIO for 6 month old

Background: 6 month old son who has never slept through the night, best nights he wakes up 2-3 times, most nights 3-4. Also tends to linger awake. We have been pushing food more during the day (and asked daycare to) so he's now eating less at night. Pediatrician thinks he shouldn't need bottle at night at this point at all. We're exhausted and stressed, one of the doctors I work with swears by cry it out method and we're about ready to do this at this point. He has a bedtime routine where we bring him up to his room and change him after a meal of solids and a good yawn or eye rub, then we read him a story in his crib and say 'goodnight' then leaving the room. This part goes great almost every time, he may fuss a bit but pretty quickly falls asleep on his own. From what I read on CIO, this stage is the basis of the training. So, the problem is that he sleeps for about 3 hours before waking every hour or two for the rest of the night. For CIO, if when he has these night wakings what is the procedure? 10 minutes then check, rinse repeat? He also has a tendency to lay awake for hours, not necessarily crying but making noise.Yes he's teething a little, but generally seems to handle it okay. Any helpful perspective would be great here, we are new parents and doing our best. But this boy needs to sleep.. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2l2Ff6J
