I'm a parent of a 4 year old who is currently enrolled in preschool at a daycare center. He is beginning to learn how to read and add, can write his name, knows some basic Spanish words, and can count up to 30.We had a safety issue come up at the daycare a couple months ago. We drove up to pick him up and found him wondering outside in the parking lot. No one inside the daycare knew he was outside or missing. So I want to move him to a safer environment.Best case scenario would be to move him to another center where the social and educational environment is similar to what he has now, but unfortunately the other quality centers are outside of our budget. I'm now considering an in-home daycare that meets all of our needs, except one. At this particular home, he would be the oldest child (the others are all babies and toddlers), and the provider told me that, while she would work with him one-on-one as much as she could, she does not have a set curriculum and could not guarantee the same level of engagement that he receives at the center. That's understandable. He will be able to start kindergarten in September 2017. So my question is, will he regress in the 9 months leading up to the start of kindergarten if I place him in the in-home daycare? He's in a very structured environment now, and will be in a very structured environment in school, and I'm just a little concerned that being in a non-structured environment for this period of time could be socially and academically harmful. Please let me know if I'm overthinking this. Thanks! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2dZ52g1
