My 14 year old daughter has never had a boyfriend, which is about the most awesome thing in the world to me, her mom.She became friends with a boy (we'll call him Jerk-face, for reference) and they hang out at school, talk on whatever app is the cool one at the moment, and they went to the movies once, as friends, with some other friends.Every couple of weeks she would mention that Jerk-face "wants to hang out" and I would begrudgingly grant permission, and he would end up cancelling plans...every...single...time...I asked if she was asking him to hang out, but she insists that he asked her to hang out each time, and she's a pretty honest kid.Homecoming is coming up, and she finally confessed that she hoped he would ask her. Her friend mentioned it to his friend and he said, "I wouldn't mind going with her, if I go."A few days ago, he abruptly stopped talking to her online and at school, complete radio silence and they usually talk several times a day, but worse, he posted or Instagram or somewhere similar that he "wants a short girl", knowing that she would see it.Now, my daughter is about 5'10," tall for a 9th grader (I'm 5'11" and quit growing around 10th grade), but Jerk-face is at least 6'3", I met him once and he's considerable taller than me, so it isn't like he's shorter than her.My heart hurts for my girl. :( She's blowing it off like it didn't matter anyway, but I can tell that she's hurt and disappointed. How can I best support her and help keep her self-esteem intact? She's a gorgeous kid, she just developed early and it really bugs her to be a size 11 in a world of size 0 friends. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2f7VWgW
