How do you explain to a 4 year old "Daddy is in jail"?

Long story short my hs sweetheart is accused (most likely guilty) of child abuse. He is on drug for years. But he was watching his gf's little boy and the baby has bruises along with a lot more signs of abuse. I am trying to be vague because it is a hot button issue and a lot of emotions are in play with everyone.This episode happened when Willow (4) was in tball. She watched the helicopter land across the street to take the little boy to the hospital. Her dad ran off and had a two day manhunt with the gf's stolen car.To make this more complicated, the gf is pregnant to willow's Dad so we also have to explain why Willow will not see very much the little brother.Hs sweetheart has been caught and is charged with at least 2 felonies, and a list of other charges. He is in jail and the judge will not set bail. He is going to be in jail for years for this.How do I explain this to my 4 year old? Any of it? As she asks about her dad all the time?
