My kids (4 & 7) were bored and stir-crazy tonight. Bad combo. So I thought they could burn off some energy dancing around the house. Rather than listen to some lame-ass kids music or sing-along or some other shit (sorry, but I prefer to rock my face off rather than make my ears bleed), I decided to have an Epic Kid Rave. Ingredients: - glowsticks ($1 for pack of 20 at Dollar Tree) - color-change LED light ($5-10) - large area for your kids to jump and throw themselves around in - energetic, kickass music of your choosingI turned out (most of) the lights and popped The Matrix soundtrack CD into the stereo. (I don't care if that makes me sound old, it's an AWESOME soundtrack, and stereo speakers are LOUD. Now get the hell off my lawn.)And. We. ROCKED. We jumped. We headbanged. We shredded air guitars. Couch cushions were tossed on the floor to assist stage diving. At some point, the kids made drum kits from a laundry basket and some storage containers and played their hearts out.But my favorite part was when Rammstein's "Du Hast" came on, and my oldest began singing yelling the alphabet in time to the song as he was playing the drums. Be still my heart, I had NO IDEA how perfectly that tune goes with those letters (?lyrics?). It was beautiful. So toss out a few glowsticks, turn down the lights, put on some awesome music with a good beat, and give your kids an epic, low-effort "rave"! Who knows, they just might start singing The Countries of the World to the latest pop song! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2eU19Iw
