I’m a dad of 2 kids, ages 7f and 5m, when I’m putting them down to bed, I like to play card or other games with them. We exhausted pretty much every single game you could play with a standard 52-card deck of cards and I went through every list of card games available on Google. Some of you may be in a similar position or are looking for a fun game to play with the kids.My daughter came up with the basics of a new card game (2 players and up) and we refined it over the past week. I wanted to post it because it’s actually pretty fun, uses a standard deck and requires some basic math skills. The game is called Bounce the Penguin.. don’t ask me why, my daughter named it but it kind of fits. Each player starts with 5 cards. The rest of the cards are a draw pile. You flip over a card (the “penguin”) from the draw pile to start the game. Each player gets a turn and they try to put down cards that add up to a number with the current card’s value as the last digit. For example, if the card was a 7, you could put down a 5+2. Or you could make it add up to 17 like 9+8. Or 27, with a K (face cards are worth 10) + 3 + 4. Or 37, with K + J + Q + 6 + A.If you can’t make a combo work with your cards, you draw a card from the draw pile and play goes to the next player. The player that gets rid of all of their cards wins. The player that puts down a combination chooses which card ends up on top and is the new “penguin” that must be “bounced”. For example, if it was a 7, and you put down a 5 + 2, you can make the 5 the top card (especially if your remaining card is a 5)Getting face cards is actually good because you can dump them easily as they are all worth 10 points. If you go through the whole deck (which hasn’t happened to us yet), just shuffle the cards that have been played to reconstitute the draw deck.Try it out! Let me know if you have fun playing it! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/33Sm4l5
