Hi everyone- first post here. I am seeking advice for an issue with my 18 yr old. He is a senior in high school this year, and he’s always been a fairly popular and happy kid. However this year, he lost his long term girlfriend (she is now sleeping w his good friend), he got seriously injured while playing his favorite sport and is prob sidelined for the rest of the season, AND all of his best friends graduated last year. He said he doesn’t have anyone to talk to anymore at school, people tease him ab his ex girlfriend, and even move away when he sits w them at lunch. His grades have started falling (like F’s and D’s), he no longer finds joy in video games (used to be one of his fave activities), his mood is always down, and I think he has started smoking and drinking on the weekends too. How can I help him? When I try and talk to him, he sort of listens but I can tell he thinks I don’t know what I’m talking about. Last time we sat him down to chat w him, he sobbed the entire time and then had an even worse day at school the next day from not sleeping. He’s clearly in so much pain and I just want to bring back the happy and carefree teenage boy I used to have! I am thinking ab finding a therapist for him, but he protested adamantly when I suggested that last time we spoke. Am I out of line if I bring him to a therapist any way, even if it’s against his wishes??Any advice is welcome! Thank you! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2loiPBD
