My 7th grader just turned 13. He's a great kid but very quirky. He's extremely bright and part of the GATE program. We had him evaluated because we though he was on the autism spectrum. He didn't meet the criteria for an actual diagnosis but he hit a lot of the bullets points. He's socially awkward and struggles with peer interaction. He was diagnosed with ADHD inattentive type.He decided to run for class president because he wants more say in how the school is run. One of his friends is his "campaign manager." He's part of the more popular crowd and told his mom that he overheard kids talking about how they were going to vote the retarded kid in as a joke. They were talking about my son. This was a step up from when they all agreed that he wouldn't get a single vote. He's at that age where he's getting too old for me to be involved. I don't want to prevent him from running but right now they are either not going to vote for him at all or are going to vote him in as a joke. I told him what his friend said about them voting for him as a joke and he was okay with it because he only cares about winning. I know I have to suck it up and deal with it. I can't prevent him from running but it sucks that these school bullies are doing this to him. These exclusive school clubs suck for kids who aren't popular. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2CMZnEn
