Kindergarten teacher makes recommendation to see doctor

We are now 8 weeks into my sons first year of school and we attended our first parent/teacher interview this week. The meeting starts well, and confirms that our son is doing well academically. However, we are then informed our son finds it hard to sit still and stay on task, which means he is slow to complete activities. We are assured he is not disruptive to the class and is a good member of the group, however he is constantly wriggling. The teacher then suggests this could be ADD / ADHD and recommends we seek advice from our GP. I am all for helping my son reach his full potential and quite prepared to make any adjustments where necessary, however I was quite taken back by such a hasty recommendations. There had been no prior warning of issues and I found it quite strange it was dropped into a 10 minute meeting with no option to explore. We do agree, my son is a wriggle worm, but he is also 5 years old, and we would like the opportunity to manage this at home before escalating to specialist (which the GP will no doubt refer us to a specialist, because thats just what GP's do). I am just seeking others opinions on these hasty recommendations, or is this just standard procedure? How often are these recommendations thrown about?. Should we just comply, or push back and seek more clarification from the school. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2q71viY
