I failed to teach my son our first language, now he doesn't want to learn it

He's 3 y/o, so it might be the teenager aspect of this age. We're from a Spanish talking country, but we've been living in an English speaking country for almost a decade and we have no intention to leave. He started talking a bit late, and we were desperate to communicate with him. Everything around us was in English (nursery, TV, nursery rhymes, and taking him out I would speak in English to facilitate meeting other parents) so that's how we started talking to him in English instead of Spanish. Saying "dog" instead of "perro" is a lot easier, so we went for the easy way. As I said, we were desperate, his toddler years were hard and he was extremely frustrated because he couldn't communicate. Now I'm trying to teach him words in Spanish, but he says "yuk". I feel like I failed and I fear he won't learn Spanish and be isolated from the whole rest of the family because of it, besides missing all the benefits from being bilingual.Apologies for the bad grammar via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/35UjPiG
