So I had my first frustrating interaction with another mom yesterday at the park. We were heading to the baby/toddler play area, our 15 month old walking down the ramp by herself with my husband and I following about a step behind. DD was wearing a short black and white romper because it’s pretty warm outside. There were 3 parents on the bench.Across the play area was a young child on the concrete wall, screaming for his mom. The mom was sitting on the bench, telling the boy he was fine. I was a bit surprised she wasn’t going over to him, he couldn’t have been much older than 2 and seemed pretty upset. But I recognize it might be just a different parenting style (DD is our first), so I don’t comment. As my daughter passes them, the same mom says “Oh, look how chubby! Look at those fat legs; they’re so chubby.” Ok, people always have weird ways of talking about toddlers. I let it go, just giving her a smile as I follow my daughter to the play area.I don’t really think much of the other mom as we play. After a bit, my daughter wants to wander around the rest of the park. We follow her back up the ramp, past the parents again. The same mom stops me and asks how old my daughter is. I answer and she asks if she just started walking. I reply that she started walking just before her first birthday. Then, to my surprise, she comments, “Huh? Has she always walked so bow-legged?”I really don’t know what to say. I mean, maybe she walks a little bow legged, but there’s nothing wrong with her. Our pediatrician hasn’t mentioned anything and he just saw DD 2 weeks ago. I just make a non-committal shrug and hurry after my daughter. We didn’t see this mom the rest of the night, but the comment is still bugging me. Not only has it peaked my paranoia ( is there something wrong with the way my daughter walks?), but it just seems so rude. I can’t imagine making any kind of comment like it about someone else. Just been bothering me ever since. via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2IBDTNR
