Ok so I’ll admit I’m still getting the hang of this parenting thing. My 7 year old niece who we have custody of is in the 2nd grade. Last night we went to parent night and we left super confused.Basically they have us go through her daily schedule and I noticed she doesn’t have any sort of art or music class which sucks, she’s a really creative kid so it sucks to see her not be able to feed that at school. But there were 2 things that REALLY confused me... first one is PE, for PE they have it for 30 minutes twice a week and that 30 minutes is spent walking the track. When it’s too hot or cold they walk the indoor track. That’s literally it. I remember doing excercise lines and playing popcorn. It feel pointless, they’re just walking in circles... and then there is the library situation. She loves to read so when I saw they don’t actually have a standard library I was so confused. She goes to a really nice school that’s very modern, it’s a Montessori program and they have small libraries in the class but for the most part use tablets to read. I guess when big politicians are your donors you can afford that stuff but, whatever. But they are moving to a completely paper free campus by 2020 so libraries are out...I know school was obviously super different now than when I was in it, but it feels so weird! There is also this really freaky focus on high school prep, I guess this school has the highest feeder rate for the big STEM high school in the area and so they push that. It’s 2nd grade! Is that really something you’re stressing about?I’m just wondering if this is something anyone else is experiencing and if and what your opinions are... because I feel totally confused! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2M6Wr78
