Paternity Leave Lunch Fail

A little back story. I live in Los Angeles and my wife and I have 6.5 month old little girl. My wife is a nurse and I work in television as a freelancer. I’ve taken an extended leave because our daughter has cystic fibrosis because we don’t trust nannies or want to put her in daycare because of germs. The weeks are extremely long - I am a social guy and I am keeping us on a schedule to help with routine (naps, eating, etc.). After a long week, I took my daughter out for lunch. It was a small restaurant (12 tables) and empty. Perfect. I could enjoy a beer and a sandwich while she napped... or so I thought.I live in an orthodox Jewish neighborhood - My wife and I met on Jdate and aren’t religious. So we order lunch, and it’s just us. They seat us at a table for 4, so the stroller could be beside me and we could enjoy ourselves. It was a nice gesture until a man entered with his wife. They have a party of 5 and want our table since it’s near the window. The man tries to buy my beer so he can have the table and I say “no thanks, we are happy here.” He manager than shows them a table in the back, but it’s not what they want. They want my table and come back and hover over us. I tell him that we just ordered and it will be a while. He then sits across from me and tells me that he won’t move until the table is theirs. At this point, I am getting irritated. It’s been a long week. We’ve been up since 5am and all I want is to have a nice lunch and be out and about. The manager doesn’t know how to handle the situation and I ask the man to leave us alone and let us eat. Note: our meal hasn’t been dropped off yet. He tells the manager that my daughter and I need to be moved to the back of the restaurant so they can have our table. The woman says she won’t do it. This is when the man gets annoyed. He stands up and grabs my shoulder and tells me to sit in the back or take my meal to go. I then tell him if he touches me again, there will be a bigger problem. He smiles and I tell the manager to call the cops. They won’t. I had 1 meal and this man’s group would have 5, hence more money for the restaurant, despite me being there first.I tell the manager that my daughter and I should be priority since we were there first, and she apologizes but doesn’t know what to do. Two minutes later my meal comes out and it’s in a to-go bag. They give me a plastic cup for my beer and give up my table. At this point, I am livid and my daughter is upset. We leave and I ate my meal on the sidewalk.I decided to reach out to the owner of the restaurant, since I felt like a second class citizen and my meal cost $30 for a sandwich and a beer and I couldn’t even enjoy it - their response; we handled it poorly and come back sometime. We won’t. It’s not easy being a dad on paternity leave. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2NJU6R9
