CALL and make sure your details are up to date BEFORE you make appointments for ob/gyn, ultrasound, etc; A cautionary tale?

Not sure if this goes here, or if anyone else has had this happen to them, but I wish I could go back a day and give myself my own advice. So I recently discovered I was pregnant. I'm about 6 weeks, and this is my third pregnancy. My first was 6 years ago, when I was 16 and still living with my mum (this is important). My second miscarried before 10 weeks in January last year, after I jumped the gun and told loved ones, but before I booked an ultrasound. As a result, my partner and I have decided not to announce until after 12-16 weeks. I haven't even told my daughter she's going to be a big sister yet.Last night I booked online for an 8 week scan at the same imaging place I used for my first pregnancy. I assumed they would update my contact details based on the information in the scanned referral and in the application form itself, so I didn't bother calling up to let them know I'd moved. I was mistaken. they called the number on my 6 year old file to confirm my appointment. Guys, THEY CALLED MY MOTHER! I wasn't planning on telling her until last, because she's a gossip and an attention seeker, and 'We know, your mother already told us' is a really deflating response to 'we're expecting!' I also want to hold off her meddling as long as possible. She messaged me right away to tell me they were looking for me and that she gave them my mobile number, and kind of implied she'd put two and two together. I scared my poor dog shouting f**k so loud, but kind of feigned ignorance and asked her what they were after. Luck was way on my side today. Despite the fact that the old file notes her as next of kin, and someone with authorized access to my medical files, they cited the privacy act at her, refused to disclose why they were calling, and wished her a good day. Thinking quick, I waited a few minutes to reply, notified her that they had just called me, and made up some garbage about my new doctor collecting my medical history (they are, but imaging wasn't on the list of places I signed for). I told her the imaging place just wanted to update my details and receive the right permissions to pass on my file. I then called the imaging place, and meticulously updated and double checked every last detail on my file, so they don't call her again, or send any documents to her address. My mother isn't a stupid woman, and I doubt she believes me, but fingers crossed, and lesson learned, I guess we'll see if we get any calls from family and friends in the next few days. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2Cvi1Tc
