My 10 year old daughter got her period. School nurse was very supportive.

My daughter started developing early so I expected her to get her period early and we prepared for it. Well it happened. The main thing I was worried about was what if a teacher wouldn't let her use the bathroom when she needed to? So I called the school nurse to see if I would need some type of doctors note or something to ensure that my daughter could go whenever. The nurse was very supportive, like way more accommodating than I expected. She told me to bring my daughter into the office and that she could bring a bag to leave in the nurses office with supplies and a change of clothes and whatever else she might need. I definitely don't remember anything like this when I was a kid. The most a school nurse ever did for me was a tylenol and a heating pad, lol. In addition to her "period purse" to be left in the nurses office, the nurse also let all her teachers know that my daughter would sometimes need to use the bathroom in the nurses office for medical reasons.I just thought I would share this with other parents who might not think to let the school nurse know about periods. I had never heard of this, so I was really glad I talked to her. I know my daughter started way on the early end of the spectrum and I wasn't sure my daughters 4th grade teachers would even consider that a 10 year old would have a period and might not let her use the bathroom immediately when she asked. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2n2ZqWI
