So my son is 5. He's always liked "girl" things, like kitties and flowers and the color pink. (His current favorite is rainbows on all his clothes - which we have to buy from the girl section, because apparently refracting light is feminine!) He also loves having his nails polished. He recently started school. There's a uniform, so he blends in clothes-wise, but he still likes his nail polish to be done every week. Apparently some other kids in his class can't wrap their heads around a boy with nail polish. He tells me how they "try to tell me I'm a girl" and "my friends say I have to use the girls bathroom and not the boys bathroom."This obviously really bothers him. Every time he thinks about his nails, even if I'm just clipping them, he mentioned how kids at school insist he's a girl. He says he told them he's a boy with glittery nails, but they still say it. It makes me sad. We've talked about gender. He knows boys can have long hair and girls can have short hair. He knows colors are for everyone. He seems confused why these kids think paint on his fingers affects his identity. So my question is - how do I address this? (I'm a former homeschooler and have no prior school experience to draw from, so I'm really at a loss!) Is it appropriate to ask the teacher to talk to the kids? Or is this just the first instance in my son learning to defend what he likes? Should I just wait for the other kids to get over it?Anyways, I appreciate any opinions! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2PdF749
