Alright, I'm having a feeling and I'm hoping ya'll can help me out with it. I called the police at the park today. I'd taken my toddlers to the local museum and we were killing some time at the park across the street. While we were there, two little girls, 4 and 3 were running around playing with my kids. They weren't wearing shoes and I didn't see any parents but didn't think much of it until it was time for us to leave. The 2 girls stayed with us and followed us. When I gently said that we couldn't take them home with us and asked where their parents were, she pointed to the parking lot. There were a couple of cars in it and they all looked lived in. That's when I noticed that the 3 year old had a black eye. I offered them our snacks and they were interested until they noticed it was trail mix. They did take it, but they played with it more than ate it.I really wasn't sure what to do. The kids were playing at a park, which is a safe place. Since they didn't devour the trail mix, I'm thinking they weren't starving. But they were 3 and 4 and completely unsupervised, I could have taken both girls with me and no one would have noticed. I know toddlers get black eyes all the time so that's not significant in and of itself. So I called the non-emergency line and reported it.I wasn't there to see what ultimately happened but now I'm second guessing it. If the situation wasn't actionable by the police, the parents will probably go underground and I just made it worse for the girls. And I know tha there are good foster homes but I know CPS and the system can be a nightmare too. I just don't know if what I saw was enough to call the police and possibly make the situation worse for the girls. If anyone has any thoughts or feedback, I'd love to hear it. This is tearing me up more than it should.*** Not one person even suggested I was a meddling asshole. Thanks everyone for the reminder to trust your gut. **** via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2P6YGcL
