I'm potty training my first child, she's 2.5 years old. She's been showing interest since just before she turned 2 so I thought we were just being lazy not capitalizing on that. Yesterday I got my charts, timer, potty (even a step ladder) and enticing drinks set up. Day 1 was an utter failure. 0% success rate. I say DAY 1 but we abandon ship after about half a day--I lost count after 12 unsuccessful potty attempts.I'll spare the details of our approach because it's a combination of whatever google/parenting books told me which, I assume, is all the same variation of how to teach a kid to use the potty.Day 2 of potty training we switched it up a bit after a zillion Facebook suggestions, including a friend who is a social worker at a learning center who sent us the centers' guide to potty training. She had 4 accidents in under an hour and was clearly upset, I'm assuming because she thought she was doing something wrong. My husband and I started bickering about the approach and then I thought "Isn't is possible she's just not ready?"Some special circumstances here (maybe they aren't so special but worth mentioning?!). First, I'm 7 months pregnant--don't know how significant that is. Second, we've been displaced from our home since September when a incompetent contractor unknowingly contaminated our house with asbestos. Our home was considered a total loss and we've been living in an apartment (covered by insurance) since. I'm not sure this is as significant since I've been working closely with professionals and they've all assured me that she's not nearly as effected by the situation as we--the parents--are. We've made the tiny apartment home and she's not acting out in any way...or IS SHE?What say you: Is she just not ready? Are we just not patient enough? Is it a result of a pending sibling and being away from home? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2iT2IFl
