Can a cold drastically change a 3 year-old's behavior?

My 3 year-old son has had a lingering cold with congestion (no fever) for about a week now. He's always been a handful and easily distracted but he's also the happiest kid you'll ever meet. No tantrums or backtalk. He sometimes gets a little wacky and slap happy when he has a cold, but not really in an emotional way. Since he has had this cold he has been an emotional mess and it's been pure hell. He has been having meltdowns over every little thing. A few awful days at preschool where he won't sit, cries, talks back to his teachers, hits other kids, runs off. It's a co-op and I worked in his classroom on Wednesday and I didn't even recognize this emotional mess of a child. I felt so awful for him and it hurt so bad to see him struggling. He couldn't regulate himself whatsoever. Even his speech therapist emailed me today after their meeting and said he wasn't himself at all and that she could not get him to focus at all. Luckily his teachers are saints and very supportive. I understand that feeling sick makes everyone feel like they're not at their best, but is it typical for a cold to just completely transform a child like this? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2g2ZfFO
