This incident happened years ago, when my son was 3 or 4 years old. But I still think about it.He was sick. High fever, chills, vomiting and a fever, after medicine, didn't go down. So my husband and I took him to the emergency hospital. I do forgot what the doctors said he had but it wasn't the flu. Some type of bacterial infection. Here's the part I always remember. It was the doctor who came in and discussed what medicine he should start. She mentioned a shot that would knock this out in a few days, or pills (liquid since he's so young) that would take over 7 days. Of course I had questions, the main one being: what was in the shot?I remember the doctor sighing, sitting down on the hospital bed my son was in, and start saying how shots aren't painful, there aren't any long term effects, the medicine is beneficial blah blah blah. At the time I took it as her judging me because I look like a teenage parent. So I shut her down real quick and told her that my son is allergic to amoxicillin and I didn't want this shot to have any penicillin variation in it.Her entire attitude changed. She stood up, and seemed somewhat taken aback, and stated that the oral medication taken everyday is the only option. Since the shot was a variation of penicillin. Now, looking back, that doctor probably dealt with so many anti-vaxers she could easily assume I was one. I only asked what was in the shot, not reminding her that my son is allergic to amoxicillin. Next time I go to the docs for my son, I've made sure to mention the allergy instead of asking what's in a shot.I don't know why I'm posting this. Just please vaccinate and if a doctor seems pushy, just remember they're dealing with anti-vaxxers all the time. via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2WBGWNP
