I teach high school and my oldest is in high school. I never understood parents who forced their children to attend high school dances and prom. People used to tell me that I would understand when I had a high schooler but I have a high schooler and still don't understand the point.I have heard people argue that they don't want their kids to miss out on special moments but if the kid doesn't want to go, is the moment really all that special? I have an open classroom during lunch periods and kids gather in my room. This is a topic that comes up a lot and I've had so many kids tell me that they are only going because their parents are making them. Some have told me that they plan on leaving after getting dropped off.My sophomore is going to his homecoming dance after his football game but he's only going because his friends and girlfriend want to go. I would think parents would prefer their kids not go since a lot can go down after prom.Is there something I'm missing? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2P0T1Vv
