I'm not sure if my teenage son has depression or is on the verge of developing it, as we've seen multiple doctors and some said it's not depression (just very low level self control + laziness + bad temper), while some others said it was early stage of depression and prescribed some medicine. He's in grade 12.He refuses to go to school for the most TRIVIAL reasons. Stuff like hitting his foot on a chair, not getting past some level in his video game, too lazy to get out of bed, getting 85% instead of 90% on some test, the list goes on. Literally ANYTHING that makes him even microscopically upset = not going to school the next day(s)Clearly he despises school. But he actually does alright in class. Most of his classes he gets high 80's (A- in Canada). He also has a rough idea what he wants to study in universityNo one's bullying him at school. He might not be the social type but do have a few friendsHe despises all psychiatrists/social workers and most counselors. For example the school counselor required him to go see some social workers because of his horrid attendance rate (<50%), and he refuses to do soWhat should we do? The difficult part is he doesn't want to seek help, unlike most other people with mental problems. Talking to him doesn't do anything as he just tells us to shut up and walk away. Punishments are even worse, as he'll simply get angrier and angrier until he starts breaking stuff and skip school for weeks. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2he0AJt
