Our 2.5 yr old was recently diagnosed with a growth disorder called recessive Multiple Epiphyseal Dysplasia (rMED). It's a mild form of dwarfism that affects cartilage-to-bone formation, resulting in irregular joint formation and early onset osteoarthritis. We're looking for other parents who have been through a similar diagnosis. We're specifically worried about pain management (he's already complaining about his hips and knees). We're also unsure what to expect as he gets older and can't participate in the same activities as his friends (e.g., high-impact and/or contact sports are not an option) and what we should plan for health care wise. We have a case manager who has been super helpful.Because it's recessive, any subsequent children we conceive have a 25% chance of having the same diagnosis. Have other parents received similar news? What was your reaction? Did you scrap plans to have more kids? Why or why not? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2rN78pW
