School supply etiquette?

My son is starting up the 1st grade next week.He did most of his kindergarten grade (last 6 weeks aside) in a different school district which had a communal approach to school supplies. When we made the switch for the last 6 weeks to the new school district I had to go buy new supplies again, but at the new place a good deal of them were sent back home with him.I've gone out earlier today to get his list of school supplies. Trying to actually find them all aside (still don't have them all...) I got to thinking that maybe it would be advantageous to ask during the parent only open house which supplies were communal and which were for each kid. My initial thought was if, say, those 12 crayola coulored pencils were for only my kids use I could easily dig out those 12 colours from the growing supply he already has...but if they were for the class then yea I should just get a new box of them. Which then leads me to my question now...Does it even matter what they are being used for to even ask this question? Would it be the wrong thing to do to send him in with coloured pencils that have maybe only even needed sharpening 2 or 3 times or that pack of 24 crayons he only used for 6 weeks for the end of kindergarten? His use or communal use aside? Or are all these supplies supposed to be brand new/in a box? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2bNlg84
