Daycare RANT

So my kid was supposed to start half-day daycare yesterday. It was a home based daycare, only 5 kids, and we figured it was going to be a good transition to preschool. The caretaker to kid ratio was good too - 3 caretakers. The teacher seemed nice and normal when we talked to her.So, we come by yesterday for our first day of daycare. I decided I was going to stick around on the first day, just so that the kid doesn’t feel abandoned or anything. I noticed that the daycare teacher was a bit resistant when I said that. I insisted.Well, first of all, no one as much as acknowledged my kid’s arrival. No “hello”, no “welcome”, no introductions. The teacher said hello to me, but not to the kid. She’s a person, dammit - not a sack of potatoes. No one talked to any of the kids, in fact. No interaction at all. There were diaper changes and food being offered, but that was as much interaction as the kids got. Since I was sitting there, one little toddler kept coming up to me and showing me her toys and I’d talk to her - which was more than any of those 3 daycare teachers were doing. They were chatting to each other in another room. So much for that caretaker-to-kid ratio.Of course, the kid is not going to go back to that daycare, but now I really feel sorry for the kids who spend the whole day there. And for myself, because now we need to find other childcare stat. Sigh. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2qxWEuR
