My son is five, and started kindergarten this year. He has always been kind of socially awkward, taller than everyone, slow to get jokes if he gets them at all, obsessed with space and space travel, walking around in his own little pretend world, etc., but he mostly gets along with kids at the park and such. I was hoping that school would help him grow socially and maybe boost his confidence, but it's having the complete opposite effect. He has fine motor issues and motor planning issues, and is in occupational therapy, but his writing skills are still nonexistent. Apparently, in the first week of school, a couple of kids decided to tell him his pictures were "scribble scratch", and not as good as theirs. The teacher reprimanded them, but it absolutely broke my son's heart. He hates school, and cries every morning when I wake him up to get ready. He has one little boy who he plays with, L, according to the teacher, but it's more side by side play than actually playing together. He told me yesterday that he hugged L and told him he was his best friend, and L pushed him and said "no I'm not". My son is devastated, and I feel so helpless. Is there anything at all that I can do? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2z8QrIM
