Looking for advice on moving forward/dealing with a peanut allergy.

So the new recommendation is to introduce peanuts early to your kids to help avoid a peanut allergy. After consulting with our pediatrician we gave our 8 month old a little bit of peanut butter and had some Benadryl on standby. Well he immediately had a reaction, we gave him the Benadryl and went to the ER, where they eventually gave him some more along with a steroid. Everything went fine and thankfully it was just a rash/hives that didn't seem to bother him, but who knows how much the initial Benadryl helped. We have a Well-Baby appoint scheduled for later in November, so we'll talk to the pediatrician then, but in the mean time I'm looking for advice/experience on moving forward and dealing with a peanut allergy from other parents. We still only give him breast milk/formula/vegetable baby food so I'm not concerned with the immediate future. What are some of the challenges or precautions we should be aware of (besides the obvious). How hard was it for you to inspect food labels and whatnot? Obviously we'll have to make the school aware of his allergy but that's years away (I'm a SAHD), but how was that handled? Thanks for your input. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2izeJ46
